I am a student at TU Dublin. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering, and in the workshop in college I use milling machines, lathes and drilling machines, as well as hand tools.
I am going into 3rd year, specialising in manufacturing and design engineering, into which I hope to incorperate some forging and smithing as part of my coursework.
This Summer I went to the smelting school in Newbridge house, at the Fingal Festival, where we processed bog iron. I also forged a knife there.
I have always been very interested in forging and the application of heat to metal, and I plan to set up a small forge at home, but I want to get a little bit more experience first.
